SLEEPLESS

My mother always told me that if something looks or sounds too good to be true...it usually is!

In Sleepless, Jamie Foxx plays a cop who gives the impression that he is trying to tag in on a deal to "get rich quick".  Unfortunately, for him, that deal goes all kinds of wrong and leads to a "sleepless" night of action mind-games and survival by any means necessary.

I would be remiss in not mentioning that this is the second film I have seen in six months that has shot on the Vegas strip.  Having performed on the strip...this is absolutely mind-boggling to me.  This city is 24/7 action with cars and people on the regular,  So, watching a film where I know how much must have gone into securing those permits and the time crunch that was imposed is extremely fascinating.

And back to the story...

Vincent Downs(Jamie Foxx) not only has the pressure of being a cop, but his father skills wouldn't make him "father of the year".  His wife (Gabrielle Union) finds it hard to depend on him as far as the rearing of their son (Octavius J. Johnson)is concerned, which results in a real lack of respect from both of them towards Vince.

However, Vince's parental instinct kicks in when his son is kidnapped in the middle of a transaction gone wrong.  Sleepless is your typical action-adventure flick until Michelle Monaghan hits the screen.  She is kicking butt and taking names with the best of them!  I loved it!  Girl Power at it's best!! T.I., as Vince's dirty cop partner, turns in some really fine work here.  I'm really hoping to see more of him on the big screen.  Octavius J. Johnson, who viewers will remember from Ray Donovan, really holds his own with Foxx.  This boy is on a roll!!!

Of course, it goes without saying that my boy Jaime Foxx kills it with his eyes closed and those gun skills Gabrielle Union learned in "Bad Boys II" have held up spectacularly well.  You go girl!

Sleepless opens TODAY nationwide and is distributed by Open Road Films.  CLICK HERE FOR THE SLEEPLESS TRAILER.
